John Schmidt Obituary

Reeseville, WI - John L. Schmidt, age 69, died Wednesday, January 8, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Reeseville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Reeseville on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Will Arnold officiating. Immediately after Mass, there will be a memorial gathering at church until 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon to follow in the church hall.

John Lawrence Schmidt was born on March 24, 1955, in Watertown, Wisconsin to the late Lawrence and Margaret (Freson) Schmidt. On October 11, 1980, he was united in marriage with Margaret Miescher in Waterloo, Wisconsin. John was an extraordinary woodworker and was a self-employed cabinet maker for 25 years. In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish and ride his bicycle. John was also a prankster, as those who knew him can attest. He truly enjoyed music, Neil Young being one of his favorites, but he also enjoyed many of the classic rock bands. When he was home, he could watch episode after episode of Gun Smoke or Gilligan's Island or any of the old classic television shows.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Schmidt of Reeseville; three children, Tammy (Steve) Gutowski of Pewaukee, Eric (Nikki) Schmidt of Watertown, and Matt (Alina) Schmidt of Beaver Dam; six grandchildren, Savanna Bucholtz (Andrew Kilian), Marcus Forney, Sage Forney, Bailey Nelson, Miah Nelson, and MaKenzie McGowan; his sisters, Judy Eicksteadt of Reeseville and Linda Sornson of Reeseville; sisters-in-law, Angela Schmidt of Watertown, Pam Miescher of Reeseville, Barbara Paar of Reeseville, Pat (David) Kopplin of Waterloo, Rita (Omar) Vidal of Argentina, and Marlene Peeper of Fall River; his dog, Ruby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Fred and Sally Miescher; grandson, Leeum Schmidt; his brother, Robert Schmidt; four brothers-in-law, Richard Eicksteadt, George Miescher, Bob Paar, and Jay Peeper.
