Richard Rohde Obituary

Oconomowoc, WI - Richard "Dick" J. Rohde assed away peacefully at home with his wife holding his hand on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the age of 81. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret "Meg" (née Dumstrey) of 56 years; his children Christopher (Jennifer) Rohde and Craig (Anjeanette) Rohde; his grandchildren Bradyn, Abby, Keaton, Grace, Sander, and Jack; his brother Robert (Nancy) Rohde; his sister-in-law's Kathleen (Robert) and Susie Dumstrey; and nieces and nephews. He is further survived by loving family, cousins, his tennis groups, friends, and neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Jean Marie; his parents Armin and Kathryn Rohde; his in-laws Kathleen and William Dumstrey IV; and brother-in-law William Dumstrey V.

He was born on May, 17, 1942 and raised in Watertown, WI attended St. Henry's grade school. Dick was a gifted athlete. He exceled at football, basketball and track at Watertown High School and continued his football career at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He transferred to Marquette University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked at Waukesha Electric as a Manufacturing Engineer for thirty-six years.

After moving to Oconomowoc in 1972, Dick played basketball in the 3-on-3 league at the YMCA, racquetball and was an avid tennis player for the majority of his adult years, recently switching to pickle ball. He coached his sons' soccer and basketball teams, and never missed attending their sporting events. In recent years, he spent hours and hours cheering for his grandchildren at their sporting events. He also enjoyed watching Badger football and basketball, as well as the Green Bay Packers.

Dick and Margaret enjoyed traveling the U.S., taking numerous cruises, exploring Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and Europe. He could always be found "tinkering" in his workshop or garage. Dick had a passion for woodworking. From building cub scout pinewood derby cars to custom-crafted wooden toys for his grandchildren. Friends and family in need of help for home improvements projects, knew they could rely on Dick for a helping hand. He also enjoyed working on cars, doing all his own repairs, and he gladly passed along this knowledge to his sons and grandsons.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ProHealth Home Health Care team for their support that allowed Dick to remain in the comfort of his own home.

Dick was an amazing son, husband, father, brother, and papa to his family. He will be missed by his entire family and all his friends. He was a great man!
