Stephen Fitzgerald Obituary
Stephen G. Fitzgerald Juneau, WI - Stephen G. Fitzgerald, age 83, of Juneau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Marquardt Health Center in Watertown. Stephen was born on May 14, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents William and Cecilia (née Finn) Fitzgerald. On November 3, 1962, he married Bonnie. Together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage and raised two sons. Stephen dedicated his life to public service and law enforcement. His career began in 1966 with the Chicago Police Department. In 1974, he became Chief of Police for the Hustisford Police Department, and in 1988 he was elected Sheriff of Dodge County, proudly serving in that role for 14 years. In 2002, he was appointed U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Wisconsin by President George W. Bush, serving eight years. Stephen later was appointed by Governor Scott Walker to serve as Superintendent of the Wisconsin State Patrol until his retirement. Beyond his remarkable career, Stephen was also a devoted member of the Hustisford Fire Department, volunteering as a firefighter for many years. In his free time, he loved attending stock car races at the Slinger Speedway and cherished time spent with his family and friends. Stephen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Fitzgerald; his sons, Scott (Lisa) Fitzgerald and Jeff (Andrea) Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Scott (Valerie), Brennan (Sarah), Connor, Jack, and Lauren Fitzgerald; and great-grandchildren, Lachan, Cillian, and Patrick Fitzgerald. He is further survived by his siblings Daniel and William Fitzgerald and Patricia Carlberg, along with many other cherished relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cecilia Fitzgerald, and his sister, Cecilia Schiek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Sacred Heart Parish (Horicon, WI). The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Private interment will follow. Shimon Funeral Home is serving the family.
