GWENDOLYN FERN SLACK Gwendolyn Fern (Bussard) Slack, 93, from Dalton, KS, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Botkin Living & Rehab Center in Wellington. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Oxford Christian Church. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Oxford Funeral Services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Christian Church, and donations may be left in the care of the funeral home. Gwendolyn was born December 17, 1931, in Winfield, KS, to Ernest and Fern (Batchelder) Bussard. Gwendolyn was raised in the country, west of Oxford, attending Home Valley School K-8th grade, and then attended high school in Oxford. Gwendolyn met and married Howard Slack on September 8, 1951, and they celebrated almost 45 years of marriage together before he passed away in 1996. After not being able to have children, they adopted 3 children: Michael in 1961, Jane in 1963, and Keith in 1967. Then Gwendolyn worked at the ASCS office in Wellington for several years before retiring. She and Howard also farmed in Sumner County. She loved to travel with friends, and she and Howard made trips to horse and mule shows. Gwendolyn was a devout Christian, a hardworking, caring person, and was loved by many. Preceding her in death are her husband Howard, sister Shirley (Fink) Heisz, niece Linda Fink, grandson Kasen Nash, and her parents Ernie and Fern Bussard. Survivors include her son Michael and wife Jan Slack, daughter Jane Nash, son Keith Slack, grandchildren Darci Reyes, Aniesa Slack, Kayla Slack, Zakary Nash, Samantha Nash, Timothy Nash, great-grand-children KyAnna Hiten, Karter Hiten, Kambree Hiten, Eliseo Reyes, Henry Strickland, Miles Strickland, Jack Strickland, and Jordyn Nash, brother-in-law Dale Slack of Ohio, and numerous nephews and nieces.
