Michael Connor Obituary

Michael Patrick Connor, was born on October 13, 1934, in Wellsville, New York, to John and Monica Connor. Much of his youth was spent living and working in Andover where Michael attended local schools. After graduating from high school in 1952, Michael attended Alfred University where he received an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management. Leaving college, Michael joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan. With his tour of duty over, and an honorable discharge by the Army, Michael decided to follow his older brother John out West to California, making his permanent home in Sacramento. Upon his arrival in Sacramento he landed a job with AeroJet and later went into business with his brother John to open Connor Motors.

On a blind date Michael met the love of his life Melinda. The two were married and shortly thereafter Melinda gave birth to daughter Karene and three years later daughter Kristen.

Although Michael loved sales, the hours kept him away from his young wife and two little girls. With that motivation, he decided it was time to return to college to further his education and enrolled in the Accounting program at Sacramento State University where he received his BS degree. One day after graduating, Michael accepted a position with the State of California working for the State Teachers Retirement System and later transferring to the Employment Development Department and eventually retiring with the State of California after 37 years of service.

In retirement, Michael like nothing more than spending time with his family and especially, the grandkids. Michael never met a stranger and will be remembered for his quick wit, bear hugs, and contagious laugh. Mike was a loyal friend for life. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents John and Monica Connor, his brother John Connor and sister Mary Ellen Hart.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Melinda. He is also survived by his daughters Karene Richins (Don) and Kristen Connor Crase (Stephen); brother James Connor (Marlene); brother-in-law Elling Ellingson and sister-in-law Maurice Connor; grandchildren Samantha Richins, Max Richins, Madison Crase; nieces and nephews Ellen, Katie, Tom, Nora, Collin, Jerome, Gabrielle, Margret, Jon, Joe, Karen, Kelley, J.J., and Mike.

Memorial donations may be made to Hart Comfort House, 141 E. State St., Wellsville, NY 14895.

My condolences to the Connor family, words cannot say enough about Mike or Mr. C as I would call him, even though he reminded me time in and time out to call him Mike.

Mr. C Thank You for believing and seeing the Good in all of us, you were always willing to lend a hand to those in need, regardless if they thought they needed it or not.

You were always there when we needed a father figure/role model and while some of us grew-up and moved away, your traits are embedded in us, as we are quick to lend a hand to those in need or have a soft ear and listen as someone needs to speak.

Mahalo for taking time out of your busy schedule back in 1984 to argue with the DOE on why Andrew (Andy) should walk the stage with the rest of the Hiram Johnson Seniors, I have never forgotten what you told me afterwards You need to work harder than others, but you will get there!

I work at it every day!

Mr. C, I never say goodbye as it has a true sense of finality, instead I bid you a found Aloha, Until We Meet Again!
