Doris Ellen Rayfield Nierman of Dryden, Washington passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025.
Doris was born in Sevierville, Tennessee on February 27, 1947 to Oliver and Cecil (Clabo) Rayfield. In 1951, her family left the Smoky Mountains and settled in Peshastin, WA.
Doris graduated from Peshastin-Dryden High School in 1965. She attended Wenatchee Valley College and graduated from WSU with a degree in Business Administration.
Doris married her high school sweetheart David Nierman, and they settled in Dryden in 1971, where they raised their 3 children and farmed the family pear orchard.
Doris was an avid reader, and in her younger, healthier days she enjoyed skiing, playing tennis, cooking, and traveling. She was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church in Cashmere and Faith Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, and served as the GLC Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Doris became a Master Gardener and Food Preserver and also volunteered on the PLU Parents Council and Corporate Board, and the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra Board. Doris was a lifelong supporter of the arts, and always looked forward to attending performances throughout the valley. In her later years her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her husband David Nierman; children Beth (Tory), Doug, and Andy (Tisha); grandchildren Dane, Liam, Gwynne and Jens; brother John Rayfield (Hazel) and sister Wilda Ward; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, who held a special place in her heart.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Oliver Rayfield and Cecil Rayfield; sisters Lillie Mae Franklin, Avis Higginbotham and Marie Hurst; and brother Curtis Rayfield.
A heartfelt thanks is extended to the staff at Bonaventure where Doris has resided for the past 2 years.
A funeral service celebrating Doris's life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Leavenworth on Saturday, November 29 @ 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation in Doris's name to Upper Valley Connection, or a food bank or other
charity of your choice.
