John Wood Obituary
John Davidson (Krull) Wood, age 55, passed away in Yakima, Washington, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Known to many as "Hoss" or "Big John," John was born on October 16th, 1970, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Georgette and John Krull. In his adolescence, he moved to Leavenworth, Washington, where he spent his formative years with friends in the surrounding mountains hunting, fishing, working on old cars, playing sports at Cascade High School, and guiding river trips.
Throughout his life, John was a true jack-of-all-trades. In 1989, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving as a Radioman aboard the USS Belleau Wood until 1991. Following his military service, he went on to work as a logger throughout the Pacific Northwest, as an equipment operator in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and other various construction companies, and held a wide range of other odd jobs over the years.
Known for his wit, sense of humor, fun-facts, capable hands and generous spirit, John could break and repair nearly anything he got his hands on and was always the first to help a friend or neighbor in need.
John had a larger-than-life stature, presence and personality. He had a deep love for the outdoors, brought laughter to every room, and made friends and memories wherever he went. He is the main character of many stories that will long be remembered, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived, loved and fondly remembered by his wife Tara Wood; children: daughter Hannah Pygott (Mother Tonya Pygott) of Leavenworth, WA; son Ian Wood (Partner Lindy Holmberg) of Wenatchee, WA, with grandchildren Millie, Madden, and McCoy Wood; daughter Tayler Jakeway (Partner Justin Jakeway) of Tri-Cities, WA, with granddaughter Kiara; his siblings and their loving families: Kim Bersing, Chris Krull, Jason Krull, Emily Krull Genova, and Anna Krull McGeever; his Partner Moraima Verstrate; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and countless friends.
The family requests photos and stories of John and invites anyone who would like to share them to utilize the online Legacy Obituary Page, or to reach out to Hannah Pygott or Ian Wood directly. A celebration of life will be held in at a later date in the Cashmere area, with additional details to follow.
