Marilyn Applegarth Obituary
April 16, 1933 - August 3, 2025
It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marilyn K. Applegarth, who left us on August 3, 2025, at the age of 92. Marilyn passed away peacefully in her hometown of Wenatchee, WA.
Born in Seattle on April 16, 1933, Marilyn was the third child of William J. and Mary E. McNeese, and the cherished younger sister of William Joseph Jr. and John (Jack) Marvin McNeese.
She met Bill Applegarth while he was serving in Korea through a pen-pal correspondence that blossomed into a love story. They were married on November 30, 1957, and together raised two daughters, Patricia and Debi.
Marilyn dedicated much of her life to the Chelan County Public Utility District (PUD). In 1962, after being dismissed for becoming pregnant, she returned to become the first woman re-hired, and later the first woman promoted to a supervisory position-a point of pride in her career. She retired in 1990.
In retirement, Marilyn and Bill enjoyed traveling with close friends Greg and Jane Brown and visiting their children across Oregon, North Carolina, Alaska, and Florida, until Bill's passing on January 12, 2009.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Marty Kley) and Debi (Larry Chambers); six grandchildren, Camie, Curtis, Dennis, Sean, Lance, and Kaylee; and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
In a letter to Bill before their wedding, Marilyn wrote: "I will close for now, loving you with all my heart. Be seeing you soon-and this time when I see you again it will be for keeps."
They are now together again "for keeps".
