Vergil Murren

1929 - 2025

Vergil Edward Murren, age 95, passed away at his home in Wenatchee, WA October 21, 2025. Vergil was born November 27, 1929 in Blockton, Iowa to Fern E. and Jesse (Scroggie) Murren. He grew up in a loving home, the youngest of 5 children. Moving with his family to Wenatchee at the age of 4, Vergil then graduated from Wenatchee High School.
During high school and after graduating, Vergil worked in the family masonry business F.E. Murren and Sons and was a volunteer for the Chelan County Fire Department. In 1958, Vergil became the Assistant Fire Chief for Chelan County and was promoted to Chief in 1961, retiring from that position June 1986.
Vergil married Gloria M. Humphries June 2, 1950 and made their home in Wenatchee. Together they raised 2 sons and built their home in which they lived, going on 74 years. Verg enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, woodworking and was very capable at just about any task set before him. Truly a Jack of all trades. In later years he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching the Wenatchee Wild Hockey team. Verg was known for his very frank manner and all would say that you always knew exactly what he thought!
Verg is survived by his wife of 75 years, Gloria; his children Doug, and Todd (Christie) Murren; 4 grand children, Matt (Kalee) Murren, Raissa (Andy) Schneider, Dawson (Brandi) Murren, and Jordan Murren. In addition he is survived by 7 great grandchildren and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
An open house will be held Friday, November 28, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. at the Sunnyslope Fire Station in Wenatchee. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vergil's life.
Donations in Vergil's name may be made to Young Life. The family would like to thank Hospice service of Wenatchee Valley. They were wonderful and a Godsend.
