Gregory "Greg" A. Freeman Sr., age 63, of
Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on March 2, 1962, at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Greg was the beloved son of James M. Freeman, Jr. and the late Pansy Juanita Parks-Freeman. Raised in Boston, he attended Boston Public Schools and later earned his GED. Greg took great pride in graduating from Springfield Technical Community College with a degree in Surgical Technology.
Greg's life was a testament to compassion and dedication. His professional career began at the Oregon Bank in Boston and continued at Baystate Medical Center. He ultimately found his true calling as a Care Coordinator at the Mental Health Association (MHA), where he served with empathy and understanding until his retirement. Greg's commitment to helping others, especially those in recovery, was unwavering. With 13 years of sobriety, he openly shared his journey to inspire and uplift those around him.
Known for his warm personality and generous spirit, Greg brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. A devoted sports fan, he passionately supported the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics. He was also an avid fan of WWE and enjoyed attending live events whenever possible. Greg's love of music included his favorite rap artists Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, and he embraced a youthful spirit, proudly calling himself "Forever 21." His favorite song was "WAP," and he cherished the movie "Colombiana." Above all, Greg treasured time spent with his family, especially his weekend visits and moments with his father.
Greg leaves behind a rich legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his father, James M. Freeman, Jr.; his children, Brittany N. Freeman and Gregory A. Freeman, Jr.; his son-in-love, Dylan Harvey; his wife, Isha Taylor Harris; his stepchildren, Markendal Johnson, Ileshah Harris, Ason Harris, Ishaq Harris, Kristal, Lesha, and Selena; his grandchildren, Cameren Thomas Freeman, Zavariana Johnson, Kesean Johnson, Zyon Johnson, and Zy'ari Johnson; his siblings, James "Dinka" Freeman, Gary A. Freeman, Sr., Anita Freeman, and Annette Lay; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Freeman and Yolanda Heathman; his godchildren, Goodness Warner, Chance Cuoco, and Takai Jones; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and his Narcotics Anonymous family.
Gregory A. Freeman Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on as a beacon of kindness, strength, and love.
