Joseph T. Mitchell

Joseph Theodore "Spike" Mitchell September 28, 1932 – October 4, 2025 Joseph Theodore Mitchell was born on September 28, 1932, in Palmer, Massachusetts, to Joseph Mitchell and Edith Vivian Johnson. He grew up to become a proud lifelong resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, where he lived a rich and meaningful life for 93 years. A graduate of Roger L. Putnam Vocational High School, Joseph-known fondly by many as "Spike"-went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After receiving a medical discharge, he began a long and dedicated career with MassMutual Life Insurance Company, where he worked for 43 years, eventually serving as the Supply Services Supervisor. Joseph married the love of his life, Yvonne Morrow-Mitchell. Together, they shared a beautiful life, filled with love, travel, and music. Their journeys took them around the world, with Joseph performing as a cherished member of the internationally renowned Young at Heart senior singing group based in Northampton, MA. In addition to his professional and artistic achievements, Joseph was deeply committed to his family and community. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to Troy Morrow Sr., a proud grandfather to Troy Morrow Jr., a treasured brother, and a beloved son-in-law to Dora Morrow. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him. On October 4, 2025, Joseph departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of service, joy, and deep connection. He will be remembered with great love and admiration by family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
