Kevin Spivey Obituary

Kevin Levor Spivey (The Incredible DJ KLS) Kevin Levor Spivey, known to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him as The Incredible DJ KLS, was born on January 8, 1964, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to Constance D. Denson and the late Frank Spivey. He was lovingly raised by his late father, Henry Denson Sr. Kevin passed away on October 18, 2025, leaving behind a vibrant legacy that touched the hearts of family, friends, and an entire community. From a young age, Kevin had an innate curiosity and drive. He graduated from Putnam Vocational High School in 1981, where he trained as a painter, and went on to study welding at Job Corps. He served honorably in the United States Army, demonstrating a steadfast commitment that would define his life. But it was music that truly defined Kevin. Known to all as The Incredible DJ KLS - and recognized by his peers as the DJ's DJ - Kevin wasn't just a performer; he was a mentor, a guide, and an inspiration to every DJ who followed him. He spent countless hours teaching, sharing techniques, offering advice, and helping young DJs find their own sound and style. Many credit Kevin with shaping their careers and inspiring them to pursue their dreams with integrity and passion. Kevin could be found behind the mic on STCC Radio and WSCB, where he had proudly served as Music Director and Program Director, as well as performing at community events - always smiling, always connecting, and always creating joy. Kevin's love for music extended into his desire to provide music therapy to the community. During the global pandemic, he brought music and joy into a time of uncertainty by hosting live virtual parties, lifting spirits and reminding people of the power of connection through music. Kevin loved working with people, especially children and those in need, and his dedication showed up in his professional life as well as his personal life. He worked in Human Services as a Support Specialist, helping youth at The Children's Study Home and Gandara, providing guidance, support, and mentorship. Kevin also supported adults transitioning back into the community after incarceration, helping them find opportunities and rebuild their lives. His compassion, patience, and belief in the potential of others left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. Kevin's love of community went beyond music and work. He was a constant presence at local events, cheering on children at Trunk or Treat celebrations, welcoming students on the first day of school, and sharing his infectious energy wherever he went. A fan of the Packers and Knicks, Kevin could often be spotted wearing his signature wide-brim hats, teaching line dances, or simply spreading laughter and positivity to everyone around him. He was the founder of The Blitz Pac and Kev Legends, and an active member of The Crew (Collectively Recognizing Empowerment Within), where he served as Co-Chair of the Entertainment Committee. In this role, Kevin helped host and plan several community events that brought people together through music, joy, and unity. He was also a member of the Revitalized CDC, where he volunteered with the GreenNFit Neighborhood Rebuild, and was proudly affiliated with the Black Spectrum Organization, continuing his lifelong commitment to empowerment, culture, and community. Kevin leaves behind his beloved mother, Constance Denson; brother Henry Denson Jr. and his wife Jessie Denson; brother Darryl Denson; sister/cousin Regina Hall; goddaughter Natayla Hall; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were touched by his generosity and light. Kevin Spivey's life was a celebration of music, love, and community. His legacy as DJ KLS - the DJ's DJ - lives on in every beat, every lesson, every act of kindness, and every smile he inspired. Though he may no longer be with us in body, the rhythm of his spirit will continue to move and uplift all who knew him. Forever spinning, forever smiling, forever in our hearts.
