Anne F. Scanlan
Anne passed away after a courageous battle on August 3, 2021 in Denver, Colorado where she had lived since last September.
The daughter of Alden James Schneider and Mary Virginia Davis Schneider, and oldest of five children, Anne was born on January 5, 1945 in Fairfield, Ohio. She graduated from St Marys High School in Greenwich, CT, and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1966 from Trinity College, Washington, DC.
In 1966, Anne married James William Scanlan (Jay) of Greenwich, CT. Anne and Jay along with their three children, Amy, Mark, and David, spent more than twenty years living abroad while Jay ran offices for the Irving Trust Company/Bank of New York in Hong Kong, Singapore, Frankfurt and London. While Jay went to the office, Anne navigated the challenges of creating a warm home in foreign countries with great efficiency and intelligence. In addition to making sure the entire family was comfortable and happy, Anne was the perfect partner alongside Jay hosting and socializing for his work, and becoming involved in local charities.
When the family returned to the US in the early 1990's, Anne decided to go back to school. She earned a Paralegal Certificate from Norwalk Community College, and joined Paine Weber where she became Operations Manager of their Westport office. Anne continued in her role as Operations Manager with UBS after its merger with Paine Weber until her retirement in 2012.
For Anne, her family and friends are what gave her life meaning. Those friends and family members consistently describe Anne as kind, gracious, welcoming, loving, joyous, graceful, and beautiful inside and out.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, three children, Dr. Amy Elizabeth Scanlan (Dave Gesler) of Denver, CO; Dr. Mark William Scanlan (Amy Stevens) of Branford, CT; and David James Scanlan (Elizabeth) of Greenwich, CT, and eight grandchildren, Cole and Margaret Gesler; Tyler, Chase and Sophie Stevens-Scanlan; and Jack, Sara and Luke Scanlan.

Dear Dr. Amy Scanlan and family. As your patient with SCL, I remember brief conversations between us, regarding our families. It's with great sorrow that I read about your Mom today. A current notice on the passing of another Scanlan, in today's Denver Post, gave interest for me to read. Sending my condolences to you, your family and friends of your Mom. Hold your memories close to your heart, she will always be a part of your life. In closing, I must share how much I miss you as my doctor, also when I think of Paris, I think of you and your Mom visiting years ago. It has been my wish to visit there too. Blessings, Take Care, Melanie Jones

I spent my youthful days on Overlook Drive in Greenwich ... the Schneider´s we´re neighbors nearby ... I remember Anne as a kind soul and the oldest of her two brothers and two sisters ... may her spirit soar
