J. Garvan Cavanagh
J. Garvan Cavanagh
The kind, witty, generous, beloved, magnetic, unique, hilarious, too smart for his own good, giving, sarcastic, renaissance man, J. Garvan Cavanagh passed away in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, June 19, 2021 after a battle with stomach cancer. Garvan was 42 years old.
Born in New York, NY on November 17, 1978 to Jan and Michael Cavanagh, Garvan grew up in Weston, CT. Garvan was a graduate of Full Sail University (2001) and enjoyed a thriving career in the NY recording industry before moving Los Angeles in 2009. In L.A. Garvan pursued an eclectic career including moped delivery and carpentry before finding his true passion as a domestic engineer for his future stepson Nathan Shanks. Nathan's mom Susan (nee Peterson) and Garvan began a relationship in L.A. in 2012 that culminated in marriage in Sept. 2020. A marriage that was too short.
Garvan is survived by his mother Jan Sherwood Cavanagh (Westport, CT), wife Susan Cavanagh (El Segundo, CA), stepson Nathan Shanks, Tyson, Harry & Betty (family pets, El Segundo, CA), sister Brooke Gamble Cavanagh (Brockton, MA) and brother Andrew Sherwood Cavanagh (Boulder, CO). Garvan was preceded by his father Michael Garvan Cavanagh.
Garvan would like to remind those with stomach cancer in the family to get a genetic test. They are inexpensive, very convenient, and can save you a world of pain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to No Stomach for Cancer (www.nostomachforcancer.org).

To The Cavanagh Family. With deepest sympathy. My heart goes out to Jan, Andrew and Brooke. Garvan was taken too soon.
