Thomas F. Krygier
February 15, 1951 - October 17, 2025
Thomas Francis Krygier passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on October 17, 2025 after battling a myriad of health conditions the last few years. He was very brave and kind until the end.
Tom was born on February 15, 1951 to Joseph and Anne Krygier of Westport, the youngest of three boys. He spent his childhood in Westport as a "Buckley Bomber", playing ice hockey on Buckley's Pond and lifeguarding at Compo Beach. Tom graduated from Staples High School, class of 1969. He was captain of the football, ice hockey and baseball teams before tearing his ACL during his senior year, sidelining a promising athletic career. Tom went on to be the first in his family to go to college, graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University and later earning a Master of Arts from Fairfield University.
Tom began his professional career at Burndy Corporation in Norwalk. He later moved on to larger multi-national corporations in California and North Carolina, where he ran their national sales divisions, selling electronic connectors for the aviation and biotech industries as well as the US military. Tom made many lifelong friends throughout his career and was known in business as a man with a sharp mind and an honest heart. He moved home to help when his father got sick and then back again to help his mom after he retired. Tom worked at Longshore Golf Course to keep busy and loved working as a Junior Golf Instructor. Tom found fulfillment in helping kids find their swing and love of the game.
Tom was deeply kind, funny, and down to earth. He found the fun in everything, whether it was a cookout at the beach, a house party with old friends, going to a concert, or singing loudly with the windows down. Tom would often spend weekends visiting his extended family, talking with friends across the country, rooting for his often beleaguered Mets, Jets, or Islanders, taking a drive, or going out to have a Guinness.
Throughout his life, Tom loved working outside, walking Compo beach, bird and deer hunting, and salt and freshwater fishing. Tom was often golfing with his cherished friends at Longshore (even getting a hole in one!), riding bikes, skiing, or riding his motorcycle up the California coast until breaking his collarbone. Tom always told his daughters, "Give 110%" and he approached his life with that same drive.
Tom loved to spend time with his two daughters, Erin and Wendy. He raised his family starting in Sandy Hook and then moved to Trumbull. He would often get up first on the weekends to make breakfast for the family before dragging everyone outside to work on the yard. He felt blessed when a granddaughter, Hana, arrived in the family. Even when he was very ill, Hana still brought a smile to Tom's face and he would always give her a hug and tell her how much Pop Pop loved her.
Tom was a man who loved his friends like family and his family even more. He shared his whole heart with those he cared about. He leaves behind his mother, Anne; his daughters, Erin and Wendy; his beloved granddaughter, Hana; his brothers, Larry and Paul; and all his wonderful friends and family. Tom said "He couldn't have asked for better" when it came to the people in his life and his friends and family will miss him greatly.
Tom's memorial will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield. A prayer service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Friends and family are invited to share fond memories of Tom at a reception with "music and adult beverages" per Tom's request, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Westport VFW, 465 Riverside Avenue in Westport. Those attending the prayer service will join shortly thereafter.
