Chalmer Slone Obituary
Chalmer Slone, 85, of Rome City, Indiana, died Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his residence.
He was born December 2, 1939, in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, to Chester and Vernie Slone.
He married Helen J. Slone on October 2, 1963. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2019.
He had worked at Newnam (Dalton) Foundry in Kendallville for 37 years before retirement.
Chalmer enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and cooking holiday meals for his family. He never knew a stranger and was a loving father figure to many of his nieces and nephews.
He attended Salem United Baptist Church in rural Rome City.
Surviving are a niece he raised, Vivian Fry of Kendallville; a sister, Margaret Jacobs of Albion; three brothers, Dewey (Nancy) Slone of Kendallville, Johnny (Bertha) Slone of Cromwell, and Sidney Minor of Pippa Passes, Kentucky; numerous nieces and nephews including Susan Slone of Wolcottville, Sharon Ritchie or Rome City, Carolyn Goodwin of Clay City, Kentucky, Cledith Slone of Kendallville, Ritchie Slone of Kendallville, Randy (Diane) Slone of Kendallville, Allen Slone of Ligonier, Margaret (Duane) Compton of Kendallville, and Shelly Slone of Kendallville; great nieces and nephews that were like his grandchildren, Rheanna (Jerry) Lucero and their two children, Ayden Lucero and Izzy Lucero, Alexis (Tony) Wilson, and Dustin Fry; and two sisters-in-law, Vonda Slone of Auburn and Christine Slone of Kendallville.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph Slone, Chad Slone, Hershel Slone, Burton Slone, and Bennie Slone.
Funeral service services will be Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Baptist Church, 8227 North State Road 9, Rome City with Pastor Tony Sparkman officiating.
Burial will follow in Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9, North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Lucero, Dustin Fry, Duane Compton, Allen Slone, Robbie Slone, and Tony Wilson.
Preferred memorials are to Salem United Baptist Church.
