Franklin Eugene Bandor, 97, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 25, 2025, at Cedar Creek Assisted Living. Frank was born in Fort Wayne on April 28, 1928, the son of (the late) Michael and Bessie (Bolin) Bandor. He attended Central High School and left to serve his country proudly in the US Navy during WWII. In 2019, Frank participated in the Honor Flight along with his brothers, Randy and Danny, also US Navy veterans.
In 1948, Frank tagged along with a friend to a poker game, and it was there he met Donna Coe, the sister of the host. It was love at first sight and they were married the following year on May 28, 1949, in
St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Donna preceded him in death on October 24, 2021, after 72 years of marriage.
One of Frank's dreams was to become a Fort Wayne Police Officer, and he achieved that in 1958. He proudly served the city through the ranks, first as a motorcycle cop and eventually as a detective before retiring in February of 1979. After retirement, Frank kept busy with various jobs, but he most enjoyed his work as a courier for Tower Bank, where he was employed until 2008. He was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, The Holy Name Society and The Fraternal Order of Police - Indiana Wayne Lodge 14.
Frank was the most proud of his family. He and his brothers enjoyed singing Barbershop Quartet style, around the campfires and at family cookouts over the years, and he also enjoyed competitive games.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Marcia) Bandor of Orlando FL, Robert (Michelle) Bandor of Fort Wayne, John (Crystal) Bandor of Green Cove Springs FL, Jeffrey (Teresa) Bandor of Fort Wayne, and Lawrence (Barbara) Bandor of Auburn; his daughter, Nancy (Scott) Glass of Medina OH; 16 grandchildren and 29+ great-grandchildren. Frank is also survived by his brother, Randy (Jan) Bandor and sister-in-law, Carol Bandor.
In addition to his parents and his wife Donna, Frank was also preceded in death by his oldest son, David Bandor; granddaughter, Megan Young, and daughter-in-law, Mary Michelle Bandor.
Frank will be remembered as a grand storyteller, mesmerizing his family and all who wanted to hear his recounting of adventures and tales on the police force.
Code 88 to Frank, whose Tour of Duty has ended. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
