Jerry Bean Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry J. Bean, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on December 9, 1932, in Wichita, Kansas, Jerry led a fulfilling life centered around family, faith, and music. Jerry graduated from Valley Center High School and took his studies to Wichita State University, where he began his education before serving honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. After his service, he enjoyed a successful career with Lear Jet, contributing his expertise and dedication for many years until retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, where his strong faith guided him daily. Jerry leaves behind his loving wife, Mary (Dick) Bean, and his cherished children: Thomas "Scott" (LiLing) Bean, Christopher Bean, James Bean, and Richard "Kelly" (Gena) Bean. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two. Jerry is also survived by his step-children, W. Dean Augsburger, Teresa "Terri" (Kent) Vetor, Kevin (Ivette) Augsburger, and five step-grandchildren, along with one great-grandchild; as well as his sister, Brenda Kay (Neil) Reinsick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry And Mary (Vanderweid) Bean; & step-grandson, Garrett P. Augsburger. Jerry enjoyed Barbershop Music and he sang with the Vocal Majority Barbershop Choir in Dallas, Texas for many years. He took pride working with several Barbershop quartets entertaining groups and churches. Jerry cherished the times he spent with his sons on many hunting and fishing trips. After retirement, he enjoyed building model airplanes. A Graveside Service will be held on October 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Luke's Church Cemetery in rural Decatur, Indiana, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Jerry's life and legacy.
