John Eickhoff Obituary

Avilla - John O. Eickhoff, 67, of Avilla, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Betz Nursing and Rehabilitation in Auburn. He was born on August 21, 1957, in Huntington to George and Barba (Fox) Eickhoff. John was a graduate of Huntington North High School and attended the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. Whether it was writing music, playing with his band, recording music at Sweetwater Sound, or humming a tune on the harmonica - music was central to his life. It was his love of music that led him to meet his wife, Rhonda Zaucha, who he married on June 10, 1995. Together, John and Rhonda spent many hours together fishing, which was another love of his. John is survived by his wife, Rhonda Eickhoff of Avilla; daughters, Hannah Eickhoff of Fort Wayne and Amanda Eickhoff of Michigan; mother, Barba Eickhoff of Fort Wayne; brothers, Joe (Julie) Eickhoff of Huntertown and Paul Eickhoff of Texas; and sister, Lisa (John) Fortini of Jupiter, FL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and his beloved cats, Kiwi and Maggie. John was preceded in death by his father, George; and his loyal 4-legged companions, Sadie Mae, Candy, and Gonzo. Funeral service will be 6pm, Monday, July 14, 2025, at Harper Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel, 530 N Main St., Avilla. John's nephew, Logan Conley will officiate the service. To Rhonda, Amanda and Hannah Rose, my most deepest sincere condolences for your loss.
John Eichoff was one of the great ones. At least we know that John is finally pain free. And he leaves us with so many great memories and sometimes tears.
I have laughed a lot of laughs with him. I will miss my brother.

Love You All,
Steve Hogge
