Kristina Wilz Obituary
Kristina Lynn Wilz, 73, of Columbia City, was called home to the Lord at 7:27 a.m. on August 4, 2025, from Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She was born on March 18, 1952, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Robert and Genevieve (Hildbold) Purdy. Kris spent her early years in Celina before moving with her family to Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1970. Kris began her career in marketing with Reynolds & Reynolds Company of Dayton, where she met Joseph Edward Wilz, Jr. Becoming the love of her life, she married Joseph on August 22, 1986. The couple relocated to Fort Wayne, then to Tri-Lakes, Columbia City in 1987, and Columbia City in 2006. She worked at a local car dealership until the birth of their son. At that time, Kris dedicated herself fully to her family as a homemaker. A lifelong animal lover, Kris was a passionate volunteer with the Whitley County Humane Society, especially devoted to fostering puppies and kittens. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart were evident in everything she did, always putting others first and offering help without hesitation. Kris was a proud wife, mother, and friend. She cherished time with family and friends, whether playing board games and cards or simply enjoying good conversation. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing golf, though she was quick to admit it wasn't her strong suit. Kris will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering love for both people and animals. Her gentle soul and selfless heart touched many lives and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Joseph; her son Nathan (Ashlee) Wilz of Albion; her beloved grand dog, Carmen; stepchildren, Stephanie (Steve) Powers of Cady, TX, Lori (Dean) Holtzman of West Carolton, OH, and Joseph (Michelle) Wilz, Dayton, OH; six grandchildren; a brother, Steven Purdy of New Carlisle; a special niece, Stephanie (Johnny) Taylor; and many dear friends. A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday (August 15th) at Smith & Son Funeral Home, Columbia City, with a memorial service to begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kristina's honor to the Humane Society of Whitley County.
