Pauline M. Bunyan

Pauline M. Bunyan, age 102, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 7:22 am on Sunday January 5, 2025, at Millers Oak Pointe, Columbia City. Born on May 16, 1922, in Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of Harry and Zola (Lyons) Shoppell. Pauline attended Central High School, Fort Wayne and graduated with the Class of 1941. She then proudly served her country in the U.S. Army during WWII in London and Paris. After returning home, Pauline returned to school to obtain her private pilot license. On March 6, 1948, she married Eugene W. Bunyan. From 1953-1972 they resided in Columbia City, before moving to Texas and then returning to Fort Wayne in 2001. Pauline worked at the Williams Food Market, Columbia City for 10 years. Pauline was a past member of Columbia City Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, bowling, playing cards, dancing, and was an avid I.U. Basketball fan. Pauline was fortunate to take part in the 2010 Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana. Survivors include her children Ronald (Sarah) Bunyan of Columbia City and Cynthia (Mark) Kiskie of Rockford, MI; grandchildren Ben (Belinda) Bunyan and Matt (Rochelle) Bunyan, both of Columbia City; great-grandchildren Alex (Brent) Martin, Sidney (Max) Elder, Brock (Meagan) Bunyan, Carson Bunyan, Riley Bunyan, Baylee Bunyan, and Alyson Bunyan; great-greatgrandchildren Hadley and Maeva Martin along with Paxton Elder on the way; special niece Susan Huffman; several additional nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene Bunyan, and siblings Peggy Starich and Delores Murphy, Lavon Wasson, Charles Shoppell, brother-in-law Fred Bunyan, and sister-in-law Edna Evans. Private services for Pauline were held with burial in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
