Phyllis Farmer Obituary
Phyllis Joan Farmer, 92, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Friday, May 30, 2025, at her residence.
She was born November 30, 1932, in Whitley County, Indiana to Frank and Mabel (Jagger) Hazen.
She graduated from Churubusco High School.
On June 16, 1951, in Churubusco, she married Charles Elvin Farmer. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2013.
After graduating high school, she was the office gal for International Harvester Dealer in Churubusco. After getting married she moved to Fort Wayne and worked as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital. She then went to work at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in the claims department for 5 years, then Mutual Security Life Insurance Company as a policy clerk typist for 12 years before she moved to Kendallville. After moving to Kendallville she worked at Baker's Fruit and Flower Farm in the bakery, Roger's Market in the bakery, and Ames Department Store. Her last job was as a home health aide. Above all else, her most important job was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family said that she was the most amazing grandmother anyone could ask for, going above and beyond for those she loved.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, where she was Worthy Matron, the Kendallville Eagles, the Kendallville VFW Post 2749, the Kendallville American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary president for nine years, the Because We Care Group; the former Kendallville PBWA, and an Extension Homemaker Member for over 50 years where she served as the Noble County Extension President. In 2000, she was surprised to be chosen as "Giver of Gifts" by the Noble County Foundation.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Janet Farmer of Auburn and Randall and Brenda Farmer of Kendallville; seven grandchildren, Sam (Tabbi Cox) Farmer of Stryker, Ohio, Jeremy Masters of Auburn, Angel Sells of Kendallville, Ashley (Dave Traxler) Masters of Kendallville, Bernice Farmer of Auburn, Brandi (Justin) Krause of South Bend, and Marcus (Katie) Farmer of Avilla; 13 great-grandchildren, Taylor Sells, Katlyn Sells, Miranda Sells, Floyd Michael Sells, Elizabeth Sells, Sierra (Ashton) King, Heaven O'Neal, Jerrod Sawyer, Sapphire Sawyer, Aleigh Gulley, Colin Masters, Gracie Masters, and Matthew Farmer; 14 great great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (Dee) Hazen of Columbia City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Masters; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Charles Hess and Margaret and Russell Geiger; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, John and Raetta Hazen and Franklin Hazen.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, 2025, at 12 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Eric Dailey officiating.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Pallbearers will be Sam Farmer, Jeremy Masters, Taylor Sells, Jerrod Sawyer, Justin Krause, Dave Traxler, Ashton King, and Marcus Farmer.
Calling is Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday all at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Kendallville American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary or the Noble County Extension Homemakers.
