Robert Thompson Obituary
Robert Edward "Bob" Thompson, age 70, of Albion, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by love at 8:38 pm on Monday August 11, 2025, at his residence. Born on April 8, 1955, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Herbert Edward and Ann R. (Henry) Thompson.
Bob grew up in Fort Erie, Ontario, moved to California briefly, returned to Fort Erie, before moving to Fort Wayne, where he attended Northrop High School and graduated with the Class of 1973. Bob also earned a Bachelor of General Studies from Indiana University. On June 2, 1995, he married Sandra Jones in Fort Wayne.
Bob worked at Wildwood Racket Club from 1976 – 1988 and became a Certified Tennis Pro Instructor. He was also General Manager at Fort Wayne Golf from 1991 – 1997 and retired as the general manager from Cherry Hill Golf Course where he worked from 1997 - 2008.
Bob was a man of faith and was baptized in the Lord on April 11, 2000. He attended First Church of God and enjoyed playing tennis, pickleball, and golfing. Bob and Sandy loved going on cruises and enjoyed 95 trips equaling 1052 nights together.
Survivors include his wife Sandy Thompson of Albion; sister Amy (Thomas) Smead of Albion; niece Caitlin (Tim) Jones of Leo; nephew Brandon (Candy) Smead of Fort Wayne; nephew, Casey (Amanda) Hedrick of Decatur; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Tracy Chorpenning.
A celebration of life gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Autumn Ridge Golf Course, 11420 Auburn Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46845.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be made to Robert Edward Thompson C.H.A.M.P. Fund through the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. The funds will support community needs and support AFTD research.
