Roger Barnhart Obituary

Roger Dean Barnhart, 90, formerly of Churubusco, passed away at 1:29 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Parkview Whitley. Mr. Barnhart was born on May 7, 1935, in Delta, Ohio, the son of the late Irving and Evangeline (Clingaman) Barnhart. He spent his formative years in Utah and California, graduating from Salinas Union High School and California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, CA, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Roger served his country in the Army, based in Yuma, Arizona, and Churchill, Canada. On July 19, 1987, he was married to Martha Gee in Collins, Whitley County, IN. He resided in Indiana for employment and served as Principal Engineer at Central Soya Co. in Fort Wayne, retiring in December 1999, after 32 years. He worked in Holland, Mexico, and Yugoslavia, and was based in Milan, Italy, for over a year. Mr. Barnhart was a member of Collin New Life Church. He was the past president of Churubusco Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served in the National Society Sons of the American Revolution as National Vice President General and National Trustee. He was awarded the NSSAR Minuteman Distinction, the highest-level National SAR award for his service. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking. Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha of Churubusco; sons, Paul Barnhart and Michael (Mindy) Barnhart; two stepdaughters, Virginia (Brian) LaMaster and Barbara (Michael) Braun Zinser; two sisters, Leona (Ray) Page and Myra Talkington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Barnhart. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Collins New Life Church, with calling one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive friends and family on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel. Burial will follow at the Original Mock Cemetery, North Webster. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the George Washington Endowment Fund of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution, the Collins New Life Church, or the Churubusco Rotary Club. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
