William M. "Bill" Maki

William "Bill" M. Maki, 84 of Fort Wayne passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1941, in Anaheim, California to Martin and Gertrude Maki. He married Peggy Houghton; she preceded him in death on March 19, 2024.
His parents, Martin and Gertrude Maki, moved to Angora, Minnesota shortly after he was born, where he grew up on the farm with his younger brothers, Robert Maki of Ridgecrest, California and Richard Maki (preceded in death October 18, 2023).
He graduated from University of North Dakota with a Mechanical Engineering degree, which brought him to Fort Wayne for his first job at International Harvester. He retired many years later from Delphi GM in Kokomo, IN where he was awarded many patents and recognition for his Engineering design and knowledge.
He enjoyed traveling while staying with his wife Peggy in Bed-and-Breakfast Inns, visiting his children and grandchildren, taking walks and loved many things in nature. He also liked to read books and put together puzzles when he wasn't working on one of the many house projects he always had going.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Jeff) Hampton and Susan (Brian) Hipp, stepdaughters, JoLynn (Jim) Conley, Heather Houghton and stepson, Timothy Houghton, grandchildren, Karissa Hampton, Quinn and Andrew Gillies and Travis and Tyson Conley, brother Robert Maki and nephews, Chris (Krista) and Jeff Maki.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Peggy and brother Richard.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804. All other services will be private.
