Arthur Verba Obituary

It is with sincere and profound sadness that we announce the death of Art Verba. Arthur Edward Verba was born 7 January 1932 and died 1 June 2025. He died after a brief illness at St. Luke's Anderson Campus with his daughter, Nancy, at his bedside. He was born in Williams Township, Hellertown, in the farmhouse he resided his entire 93 years to John (Sr.) and Lydia (Feke) Verba. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. A niece describes him as "once a Marine, always a Marine. Tough as nails and a heart of gold" Arthur retired from the Horticulture Department of Bethlehem Steel in 1990. He was also an active farmer and owned Verba's Nursery and Landscape for many years. He was married in 1954 to Joy Elaine Fern Verba, with whom he remained until she died in 2021. He is survived by his son, Edward, and his husband, Chuck (Bickert); his daughter, Nancy Roth, and her husband, David. He has two grandchildren, Tanya Bloom and Joshua Verba (Michelle Mitrik). Additionally, he has 4 great-grandchildren: Autumn Bloom, Adalyn Bloom, Vivienne Verba, and Evelyn Verba. Arthur was preceded in death by sisters Elizabeth Verba, Barbara Vassa, and Lillian Mazur, and brothers John, Geza, William, Frank, Joseph, Steven, and Willmish. A son, Eugene, also preceded him in death. He was fully devoted to his family and became a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, band booster, and football coach to assist his family. He was a member of the Forks of the Delaware Coin Club, Wilson Lions Club, and Hellertown American Legion. His hobbies were collecting coins, jewelry, hunting equipment, and tools. He was an avid auction devotee. A Picnic and Celebration of Life will take place 12 July 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Williams Township Pavillion (655 Cider Press Road, Easton, PA) The Reverend Ron Hari will officiate. The family requests that, instead of flowers, contributions be made to their favorite charities. The Heintzelman Funeral Home is in charge of his cremation service. Ed, Nancy, Chuck and family. My sincerest condolences on the passing of Mr. Verba as I have always called him my entire life.
He was a kind hearted man. I remember him visiting my dad in our garage while my dad would weld something for him or just sit and talk. Having been neighbors growing up it wasn’t unusual to drive past the farm and seeing him outside always doing something but always had the time to look up and wave. He will be missed. Last year he gifted me an heirloom from the family and I will always cherish it. May he rest in peace as he joins his family and friends above. ❤
