Craig B. Cannon, 71, of Lansdale, PA, and formerly of Clearwater, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Born May 23, 1954, in Leawood, Kansas, Craig was the son of the late Richard and Shirley (Baker) Cannon. He grew up in Johnson County, KS, attended Shawnee Mission East High School, and later studied at the University of Kansas. It was during college at KU that Craig fell in love with sailing on Lake Perry-an early passion that would spark a lifelong journey.
In 1978, Craig earned his U.S. Coast Guard license and began his career in the yachting industry as a charter captain in the British Virgin Islands. Over the next 41 years, he captained more than 30 sailing and motor yachts ranging from 24 to 187 feet, navigating the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Bahamas, and U.S. coasts. Known for his professionalism, calm presence, and sense of adventure, Craig became a trusted captain to high-profile guests and celebrities, and competed in regattas including the Rolex Regatta, BVI Spring Regatta, and Antigua Race Week.
Craig's adventurous career at sea defined much of his life, but in his retirement, he found new meaning and joy in being close to his family. He moved first to Washington, D.C., and later to Lansdale, PA, to be near his son, Micah, daughter-in-law Catherine, and grandsons, Luke and Noah. He embraced this chapter with gratitude and intention, making the most of the time they had together-from Pizza Fridays and rounds of golf to spirited games of laser tag around the house.
Craig shared a deep bond with Micah, especially over their shared love of golf. Some of his favorite memories were the hours they spent together on the course-and one of his proudest moments was the first time Micah beat him. He cherished his role as "Pa" and found immense joy in watching his grandsons grow.
Craig is survived by his son, Micah Q. Cannon (Catherine) of Lower Gwynedd, PA; two grandsons, Luke and Noah; his sister, Melinda Kingsbury of Essex, CT; and his beloved partner of 15 years, Nancy Corsetti.
Relatives and friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Craig's memory may be made to the
American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org/).
Craig lived fully-with curiosity, courage, and a spirit of adventure that took him around the world. May he have fair winds and following seas.
