Donna Duckworth Obituary
On Sunday, September 28, 2025 heaven gained an angel when Donna M. Duckworth passed peacefully from this life with her husband and her grandson by her side.
In heaven, she joins her beloved son, James Groover, Jr. who passed away in January and her former husband, James Groover, Sr. Also greeting her in heaven were her mother and father, Susan and Donald Stites. She also looked forward to being reunited with her brother, Michael Wagner and sister, Lee Buskirk and her beloved grandmother, Ella Patterson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Fred (Doc) Duckworth and her loving daughter, her "Angelina", Jennifer Zingales and her husband Joe as well as the lights of her life, her grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Zingales as well as her honorary grandson, Kyle Zingales. She will also be lovingly remembered by her most special great-niece, Rebecca Ferrigno, whom she shared many adventures to New York. She also leaves behind her step daughter, Debbie Hooper, her husband Dan and their family, her sisters-in-law Kay Moore, Carol Wagner, and her brother-in-law, Charlie Groover and his wife Chris.
She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews many of whom she shared happy memories with. Every child in their family will fondly remember her giving them "bird baths" in the sink and for teaching them her favorite game, The Pie Game.
Donna was a graduate of Northampton Community College's nursing program. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from St Francis College in Joliet, IL and her Master's Degree in Public Health from East Stroudsburg University. She received her special education teaching certificate from De Sales University. She worked as a nurse for many years at various facilities and was last an Assistant Director of Nurses at Eastwood Nursing Home. Her last and most favorite job was as a Special Education Teacher at Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 where she taught a Multiple Disabilities Support Class with love.
She was a wonderful example to her family of strength through adversity, pursuing your education and being grateful for what you have. Donna was a lover of chocolate ice cream and would often eat it for meals! She taught many who loved her how to bake, cook and plant flowers. She had a knack for decorating. She loved the beach and was a wonderful painter and had created many scenes of children on the beach. She was a faithful volunteer for many years at the former Good Shepherd Church in Wilson serving in many capacities across the years. She also served Meals on Wheels and served often at Safe Harbor. She had often paid for the groceries of others because she knew what it was like to be faced with adversity. She had a kind heart and her son's friends often called her a "saint".
She left strict instructions that no flowers be at her funeral and the family asks that you be kind to others, help a friend in need or give to charities. If you would like to consider a donation, Safe Harbor or The Center for Animal Health and Welfare were her favorites.
