Doris E. Philips

Doris E. Philips, 94, of Stroudsburg passed away on Wednesday, January 15, at Grace Park. She was the wife of the late Thomas H. Philips, who passed away in 1986. Born on November 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary A.(Crooks) Haase and a lifelong resident of Monroe County. Doris was employed in customer service positions throughout her life, including at Kresge-Lebar Drugstore and Monroe County Courthouse. Doris's strong love for music is attributed to her singing and playing for countless celebrations throughout the local community. She sang in many local choirs, played and taught the piano to her grandchildren, and was an exceptional organist for the church at a young age, which she did throughout most of her lifetime. She was a member of Stroudsburg United Methodist Church for over 80 years. Before retiring, Doris was passionate about caring for others while volunteering for the Monroe County Office of Aging, RSVP, and multiple Senior Community Centers. Surviving are five children: Debra Cuono and her husband Nicholas, Sharon Young and the late Doyle Young, Thomas Philips and his wife Lisa, Carol Decker and her husband Terrence, and Lee Philips and his wife Janine; seven grandchildren: Nicholas Cuono Jr, Christopher Cuono, Tarah Decker and wife Lauren, James Wakeley and wife Erica, Nicole Wakeley and fiancé Mark, Alexis Philips and Camryn Philips; and five great-grandchildren: Madison, Dillon, Alexis, Bobby and Brian. She is predeceased in death by her brother, Richard Haase. There will be a visitation hour on Sunday, January 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 547 Main St., Stroudsburg. This will be followed by religious services, with Pastor Monica Guepet and Pastor Margie Good officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial remembrances be made to Stroudsburg United Methodist Church or Stroudsburg Fire Department.
