Duane Stofflet Obituary

Duane R. Stofflet (Scut), of Bangor, PA, passed away at home on March 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 4, 1939, in Pen Argyl, PA, he was the son of Helen (Free) Stofflet Counterman and Russell Steward Stofflet. Duane was the beloved husband of Kay Chamberlin, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Duane attended Pen Argyl High School before continuing his education at Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster, PA, where he learned his skills in masonry. His life journey included serving his country in the U.S. Army in Germany, where his first daughter, Joelyn, was born. After his military service, Duane worked as a part-time mason while employed as a serviceman at Buzzard Electric, later dedicating 40 years to operating his own masonry business. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the community through the construction of homes, churches, and fireplaces. His greatest pleasure in life was time spent with his family and friends. An avid sports enthusiast, Duane made a lasting impact as a coach, official, and mentor. He founded Bangor's midget wrestling program and coached girl's youth softball in Belfast. His dedication extended to officiating PIAA sports for over four decades, including football, wrestling, and soccer. Anyone who knew Duane admired his strong will, incredible sense of humor, and his zest for life. He had a great love for his church, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he helped build the annex, reflected his profound faith and commitment to his community. He found joy in golf, playing cards, crafting silver jewelry, country music, spending time in Arizona, and collecting historic guns sharing his passion with his grandsons. A proud accomplishment was achieving two hole-in-ones in his lifetime. Duane's legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Kay, and his loving daughters: Joelyn Kish (partner Dave Bubenko), Diane Achenbach, and Kimberly Spang (husband Patrick). He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Jason Kish, Jeremy Kish, Janelle Fox, Tara Everett, Christoffer Achenbach, Ty Spang, and Paige Spang, as well as three great-grandchildren: Andrew Celia, Harper Kish, and Blakely Fox. Duane is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Englert, Charles Stofflet, Sherwood Stofflet, Ruth Getz, Russell Stofflet, and Sharon Ace Lohman. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stewart Stofflet and David Stofflet, and his sisters, Irene Dech and Deloras Ace. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 9:30 to 11 AM at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5907 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth, PA 18064. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM, with interment at St. John's Cemetery, Bangor, PA 18013. A celebration of Duane's life will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to James Palmeri Funeral Home, Martin's Creek.
