Elgin Lenhardt Obituary

Elgin Harleman Lenhardt, Jr. of East Norriton, PA, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2025. He was 89 years old. Elgin (Bud) was born in Norristown, PA to Elgin, Sr. and Esther (Gotwals) Lenhardt in 1935. Bud lived a full life filled with love and a deep commitment to his family and community. He was the beloved husband of Joan C. (Cummins) Lenhardt. They were married in 1957 and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last July. Family was so very important to Bud. In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his cherished daughters Laura (Randall) Spoeri and Linda (Joseph) Terrell. He also delighted in grandsons Stafford (Taylor) Terrell and Barrett (Amanda) Terrell and four great-granddaughters Grier, Remy, Emma, and Sophie. He also enjoyed step grandchildren Jennifer Spoeri and Jason Spoeri. He is survived by his sister Molly (Clifford) Rowden, a cousin, five nieces, one nephew, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Elgin and Esther Lenhardt and his brother Oliver (Gail) Lenhardt. He was a graduate of Norristown High School and Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. At Lehigh, he was a member of ROTC and an active brother of the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity. After graduation from Lehigh, he received his commission in the US Army. He served at Fort Eustis, VA in the US Army Transportation Corps and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. He then returned to the Norristown area and settled in East Norriton Township. He became a partner in the insurance agency Elgin H. Lenhardt & Sons where he carried on the family business until his retirement in 2021. He was a resident of East Norriton Township for 65 years. Bud was an active member of his community and a member of several social and civic organizations. These include the East Norriton Lions Club, the Jefferson Fire Company (life member), and the Montgomery Hose Fire Company (life member). He also served on the East Norriton Republican Committee and as a board member of the former Upper Merion Building & Loan Association. He was also a long-time member of Plymouth Country Club and of First Presbyterian Church (Norristown). He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Ocean City, NJ and Virginia Beach, VA. He was also a passionate sports fan, always ready to cheer on his favorite teams. Bud created many lasting and wonderful memories with family and friends. His contagious laughter, warm smile, and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to Bud's life celebration on March 29, 2025 from 10-10:50am with his memorial service to follow at 11am at the Boyd Horrox Givnish Life Celebration Home of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike. Graveside services to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norristown, PA. If desired, the family would appreciate donations in Elgin's name be made to the organization of the donor's choice. Elgin, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. The final battle is now over and peace has been restored. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation“s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
