Gary Meckes Obituary

Gary R. Meckes, 75, of Hallstead, PA, died suddenly at home on Wednesday July 9. He was the son of the late James H. Meckes, Jr., and Catherine S. (Argot) Meckes, and stepson of the late B. Gail Meckes. He was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Meckes, at home, and his daughter Kimberly Jo Meckes of Stroudsburg. He is also survived by his uncle, Homer Argot, his aunt and uncle Merle and Roland Meckes, several cousins, and his best friends and adopted brothers Carmen and Art. The three of them were dubbed as the "Pineapple Kids" after they took shooting classes with a famous Hawaiian. He is also survived by his best friend and golfing pal and adopted mother Charlotte Possinger, and many good neighbors and friends both in the Poconos, Susquehanna County and upstate New York. Gary was a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, and the NRA. He was a member of the Barger Masonic Lodge No. 325 in Bartonsville before transferring his membership to Lodge No. 338 in Hallstead. He was also a member of Hallstead Great Bend Rod and Gun Club, and a former member of Blue Valley Rod and Gun Club and Pocono Slate Belt. He also shot at and pulled trap not only for some of the clubs but also at Todd Detrick's fun shoots and many locations. He loved trapshooting, fishing, tying flies and hunting, especially being with fellow sportsmen, and bowling in Wind Gap prior to moving to Hallstead. He loved all of his dogs over the years, and Taliana is going to miss him. He was a very talented mechanic for most of his adult life, whether it was at Mott's Sunoco in Tannersville, Gary's Service Center in East Stroudsburg, or Gray Chevrolet on automobiles or small engines at Sebring's Power House, Pocono Mountain School District or later at Glezen's in Hallstead. He was always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend to do whatever was needed. He was also exceptionally handy around the house when something needed to be repaired or replaced. Gary's wishes were not to have any viewing or funeral services, and those wishes will be carried out. There will be a private burial. Celebrations of life will be arranged at a later date, one in the Stroudsburg area and one in Hallstead. William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc.
