Gerald Marnell Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Marnell, 87, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jerry touched many lives with his warmth and generosity. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jerry's strict upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and deep sense of responsibility. His early years shaped his resilience and appreciation for life's simple pleasures. As a boy, he cared for horses in Central Park, sparking a lifelong love of animals and nature. He began his career at the New York Stock Exchange but longed for a quieter life. In 1972, he and his family moved full-time to the Pocono Mountains, where he found peace in the countryside and joy in family life. Jerry shared over 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised two daughters: Sheri-Lin (Marnell) Newell (Richard) of Jonas, PA, and Kristin (Marnell) Keilt (Brian) of Mooresville, NC. He was a proud grandfather to Drew Keilt (Dani) of Chesterbrook, PA and Avery Newell of St. Andrews, Scotland, and a great-grandfather to Hailey and Audrey Keilt of Chesterbrook, PA. He also leaves behind Holly Barbiere (John) of Wilmington, DE-Kristin's high school best friend who came to live with the family and became like a daughter to Jerry and Linda. Family was at the heart of Jerry's life. He cherished holidays-especially Thanksgiving, when he expertly carved the turkey, and Christmas, when he hosted loved ones and set up the train around the tree. Known affectionately as "The Mayor," Jerry spent over 30 years behind the bar at the Jonas Hotel, where he made friends easily and remembered everyone's story. He also worked in real estate and was a skilled dart player, earning the title of Dart Champion several times. Jerry supported his daughters in all their pursuits and introduced them to the arts, fine dining, and shared experiences that enriched their lives. Though he loved the ocean, his favorite place was the golf course. "There's never a rainy day on the golf course," he often said. He organized charity outings and was a beloved member of the local golf community. A Navy Korean War veteran, Jerry was also a proud Freemason for over 40 years and a lifelong member of the Rod and Gun Club and the Pocono Snowmobile Association. He took great pride in his lawn and garden, finding joy in the beauty he created around him. Jerry's life was simple, yet full marked by kindness, humor, and a deep love for those closest to him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA. I have many fond memories of Gerry from my years at Jonas Hotel. He was proud of his garden and enjoyed sharing his harvest. His wife, Linda, was a gifted artist, and I feel fortunate to own one of her pieces. Their memories will stay with me forever. Rest in peace.
