Gladys F. (Metzger) Kuhns, 102, of Walnutport, formerly of Schnecksville and Slatington, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospice (Inpatient), Allentown. She was the wife of the late Robert R. Kuhns. Born in Allentown August 29, 1922, Gladys was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Elizabeth (Oswald) Metzger. She was employed as a food service worker at LCTI in Schnecksville for 20 years before retiring. Gladys was the oldest member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs. Survivors: Daughters, Barbara J. Rechtor (Dennis) with whom she resided, Donna F. Shollenberger (Jack) of Palmerton; daughter-in-law, Lucille W. (Rothroth) Kuhns of Slatington; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; predeceased by a son, Jeffrey R. Kuhns, and siblings, Clair, Wilbur, Evelyn, Arlene, Mildred. Service: Funeral services will be held 11:00 am. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 am. – 11:00 am. Thursday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs. I worked with Gladys at Lehigh County Vo-Tech School and liked her from the start. She was a very caring and kind lady who always had a kind word about every one. It has been years since we last saw one another but I thought of her and her kindness so so often. I feel very fortunate to have known her, she will never be forgotten.

Chump the Clown

I have nothing but fond memories of Gladys. She always had a smile on her face and was full of joy. My greatest memory of her is when I began entertaining as Chump the Clown. She told me she had the perfect pair of pants she could give me for my costume. She was right! The pants she gave me were pants that she used to wear. They had broad blue and white stripes with huge yellow flowers all over them. They certainly added a comical flare to my costume. I will forever see her smile and hear her laughter. She was a gem that sparkled brighter than the most brilliant diamond on earth!

She was a wonderful person. I always looked forward to seeing her, which wasn't very often as she was so incredibly healthy. I really never had to anything to provide care for her. The grace of God and her own common sense took care of all that.

What a remarkable life Gladys lived. At 102 years old, she was a truly special woman whose kindness, warmth, and loving spirit touched everyone around her. She had a way of making others feel cared for, and her memory will always be a blessing to those who knew her.

You were always my favorite fun and funny aunt. Thanksgivings at your house were raucous, joyful times. You made the best milk custard pies from the dough scraps. Heaven is getting a wonderful addition.
