Jean DeRenzis Obituary

Jean Mae DeRenzis, formerly of Williams Township, died peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, surrounded by her children and their spouses.
She was born on April 18, 1927. She was the eldest child of the late George "Red" Walters and Helen (Shively) Walters. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Keiter and her husband Jim, her sister, Ruth Frank, her son-in-law, Bob Sutton and her brother-in-law, Richard Scheuermann. She is survived by her sisters Nancy Scheuermann and Carol Toto and her husband George, and her brother-in-law, Bill Frank, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Jean was also preceded in death by her husband of 73 years and the love of her life, Richard Nicholas DeRenzis, Sr.
Jean is survived by her five children, Kathleen Prendergast and her husband Kevin, Linda Sutton, Gail Stahley and her husband Jack, Rick DeRenzis and his wife Margie and Nancy Amato and her husband Nat. Jean loved all her children very much and was very proud of their accomplishments. She adored her 12 grandchildren and her many great grandchildren. She was much loved and cherished and will be missed by all.
Jean left Easton High School when she was a senior to help with the war effort. She worked at the Vorset Company in Oxford, New Jersey making flares for servicemen in WWII.
After the war, she worked at Snow White Cleaners on Freemansburg Avenue in Wilson where she met Rick. Rick's father Nicholas was the owner of Snow White Cleaners. During their courtship, they spent many dates roller skating at Bushkill Park. They were accomplished skaters.
Jean was quite the saleslady working at Eagle Youth Center in downtown Easton. Her children remember their mother leaving their home on Lachenour Avenue smartly dressed in high heels walking to Eagle Youth Center. In later years, she worked at Food Lane on Southside,
Jean was a passionate reader and loved books. She was well known and well liked by the librarians at the Easton Public Library. She kept an extensive diary of all the books she read noting what she liked and didn't like about particular books. And, when her children wanted to get her a kindle she said, "No way." Jean also enjoyed shopping with her sisters and their monthly luncheons. She learned to drive in her late forties and after getting her license, she was always on the go. Jean belonged to a bowling league with her sister Nancy, but Scrabble was her favorite game, and she won most of the time.
Jean was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Southside. She and Rick were married at St. Paul's. Jean was very active in Porter Elementary School PTA, serving as president for several years. She was devoted to her children and attended many sporting events, musical productions, and parades.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family in Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Easton. Burial will be in Hay's Cemetery. Offer online condolences at www.strunkfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to United Fellowship Lutheran Church (memo: Food Pantry), 2115 Washington Blvd., Easton, PA 18042.
