Mrs. Jean M. (Kunkle) Magilton, 95, formerly of Pottstown, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA.
Born December 25, 1929 in Sanatoga, Jean was the daughter the late Joseph and Elsie (Eck) Kunkle. Her husband, William J. Magilton, passed away on November 10, 1998
Jean was a 1947 graduate of Pottstown High School. She went on to the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing where she received her nursing degree in 1951. Jean worked as a nurse and patient care coordinator in the emergency room at the Methodist Hospital, Philadelphia from 1951 until her retirement in 1982. She was a proud life member of the Methodist Alumni Association as well as a life member of the Emergency Nurse Association.
Jean was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church, Pottstown. She sang with the Boyertown Area Choral Association and truly enjoyed herb gardening, reading books and the Phillies. Jean loved history and was the Kunkle family geneologist. She was fascinated with British history and the history of New Hanover Township. She even lived in the former home of Governor Hartranft.
Jean is survived by her step-son, William J. Magilton, Jr., husband of Janice Magilton, San Diego, CA, her brother, J. Robert "Bob" Kunkle, widower of Pamela Pearce, Charlotte, NC, her sister, Mary L. (Kunkle) Nygaard, Reading, her nieces and nephews, Janice Day, Fairborn, OH, John Theodore Hall, III, husband of Neila Hall, Fairborn, OH, Jeffrey Hall, husband of Leisha Hall, Waco, TX, Joseph Hall, husband of Shelley Hall, Fairborn, OH, Rebecca Burkert, wife of Keith Burkert, Fleetwood, Jonathan Nygaard, Mechanicsburg, PA, and Katherine "Kalle" Stinson, wife of Shawn Stinson, Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, William, Jean was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Rosemarie "Bunny" Slavin, and her sister, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Swale.
Funeral Services for Jean will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood, PA. Burial will follow in Falkner Swamp Cemetery, Gilbertsville. A viewing for Jean will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
