Lucius Wood Obituary

Lucius Sylvester Wood III, 83, of Douglassville, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Tower Health Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Bari Anne (Hauser) Wood, whom he married on April 1, 1967 and father of Lucius Sylvester Wood IV, Courtney Anne (Wood) Moody and James Jarrett Wood. Born November 13, 1941, in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Lucius Sylvester Wood Jr. and Joan (Sheffield) Wood. Lucius was a 1960 graduate of Smiths Station High School in Smiths Station, Alabama, and later went on to graduate from Auburn University with a bachelors of science degree in industrial engineering. During his time at Auburn, Lucius was an active member of Navy R.O.T.C and received his commission in the U.S. Navy at graduation. He spent four years on active duty based on the east coast. When he completed his time in the service he worked as an industrial engineer for Uniroyal Corporation and FMC Corporation for a majority of his career. He then worked and retired from OCI chemical company in 2010. Even when Lucius retired he still loved to keep busy. He loved spending time outdoors working in his garden and making sure he had the nicest yard in the neighborhood. He was a very creative man and had a strong passion for his wood working, creating many heirloom gifts and keepsakes for family. Lucius could do anything including, electrical, plumbing, painting, sewing, cooking, baking, and was given the moniker, "Keep Calm, Lucius will handle it". The most selfless and practical man a person could ever meet. He loved life and was always of service to everyone he encountered. Surviving are two children, Lucius Sylvester. Wood IV, husband of Lisa (Kleshock) Wood of Blandon, and Courtney Anne (Wood) Moody, wife of Major Anthony Moody of Blandon. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Madeline Margaret Wood; Anna Rebecca Wood; Emma Grace Moody; and Samuel Wood Moody. Two of his sisters are also surviving, Rosalind (Wood) Wheeler, wife of Woodrow Wilson Wheeler of Fort Myers, FL, and Rebecca (Wood) Foster, wife of Jerry Foster of Florence, AL. Lucius was very close to his brother and sister-in-law, Richard Daly Spencer and Anne Rita Spencer of Amherst, New Hampshire. He was predeceased by one son, James Jarrett Wood in 1973. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Columbkill Church in Boyertown.
