She would grow many things in her garden, including corn, potatoes, peas and green beans. She would freeze and can as much as she could.
Mary also enjoyed traveling. Her goal was to visit every state and would collect magnets and spoons from each state. She loved and really looked forward to her 2-3 weeks trips, twice a year, to Oregon to visit her son and his family. While there, she would bake and help wherever she could. She enjoyed attending church with them and got to know quite a few people there.
Mary was also a collector of Longaberger baskets and has quite a collection to pass along to her family. One of Mary's favorite things to do was going to Lancaster, because "it was cheaper in Lancaster".
