Mary "Ellenblast" Stemmler

Mary K. (Ellenbast) Stemmler, age 91, of Mary D, PA, passed away at Orwigsburg Center, on Wednesday, Sept 17, 2025. She was the loving wife of John J. Stemmler for 69 years of Marriage. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Barbara M. (Toth) Ellenbast. Mary was a member of St. Peter's UCC of Barnesville, where she assisted for many years with the Strawberry Social among many other activities. She was also previously an active member of the Mary D Fire Company 's Ladies Auxiliary. Family meant the world to Mary, whether it was gathering for a Sunday dinner, getting together with family to make a batch of her award winning strawberry jelly, or just sitting together to work on a puzzle. Simple things brought her so much joy. Mary was a mother and grandmother to everyone, and a giver to all. Whether it was sending a greeting card, taking collections for flowers for someone in the community, baking her famous banana and pumpkin breads at Christmas, or giving her bingo prizes from the home to her great-grandchildren, Mary cared for those around her. In addition to her husband John, Mary is survived by her son James Stemmler with wife Mary and her daughters, Barbara Stemmler with partner Thomas Parsons and Cathy Jean Gerber with husband David. Grandchildren: Nathan Kemmery, Jessica Stein and Emily Heffner, Derek and Jonathan Gerber, Jason and Zachary Stemmler. Great-Grandchildren: Brandon Kemmery, Eva and Leo Gerber, John and Abigail Heffner, and Joseph Stein. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in passing by her son John J. Stemmler, Jr. and her brother Joseph J. (Jimmy) Ellenbast. Family and friends may call on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025 from 10am-12pm at Lamar Christ Funeral Home, 31 Mahanoy Ave. Tamaqua PA 18252. Funeral Service to follow at 12pm. Interment at Skyview Memorial Park.
