Ravi Kumar Obituary
Ravi Kumar, PhD, age 71, died on February 9, 2025, in his home in Center Valley, PA, surrounded by family and friends after living with frontotemporal degeneration for many years. Ravi was an intellectual, philosopher, artist, and engineer. He was a brilliant man with immense strength and dignity. He stood by his views and beliefs and loved his family unconditionally.
Ravi was born on March 1, 1953, in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. He attended school there and graduated in 1974 from Birla Institute of Technology & Science with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. He married his wife, Kanchan, and moved to Frederickton, Canada that same year to earn his PhD in Chemical Engineering (Adsorption) from the University of New Brunswick. He moved to the United States in 1978 and worked for one year as a professor in Chemical Engineering at Lafayette College. He transitioned from academia to industry, contributing to several companies, including Air Products, BOC Sciences, and Praxair. Ravi worked on gas separation throughout his career and invented multiple products and processes leading to over 50 U.S. patents. His work was lauded in numerous publications, international presentations, and awards throughout his career for his scientific achievements.
Ravi enjoyed traveling with his family, and he loved the beach and going to New York City. He especially enjoyed visiting art museums, an activity he enjoyed with his father-in-law. His hobbies included painting, physical fitness, and regular trips to Dunkin' Donuts with his family and friends. He was a passionate advocate for the rights of women and his atheist views, always up for a hearty party debate. He prioritized spending time with family and friends, a trait he has passed down to the rest of his family.
Ravi is survived by his wife, Kanchan; two daughters and their partners, Aneesha and Amol, Amanika and Sarah;a brother Prabhat (wife Aparna) and a sister Usha (husband Mahendra Pal Jain - deceased); and grandchildren Avni, Anya, Archana, and Gio. Ravi had a second brother Vinod, who is deceased, and is survived by his wife Meera.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Morello Funeral Home, 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) followed by a funeral service with a private cremation to follow.
