Richard Hartman Obituary

Richard K. Hartman, a devoted husband and loving father, rejoined his family as he passed away on March 25, 2025 with his daughter-in-law by his side. Dick was born in Reading, PA and grew up and graduated from the Milton Hershey School. The school instilled in him humility and a strong work ethic that would endure throughout his entire life. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. While stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he showcased his athletic talents on the baseball and basketball teams by entertaining stateside officers with his skill and competitive spirit. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and served in the National Guard following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. After serving in the military, he attended Elizabethtown College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Years later while working in New York, he went on to complete his MBA at New York University. Richard's business career spanned over 30 years in various marketing and advertising positions for pharmaceutical companies in New York. This included holding the title of Vice President of Marketing at Sterling Drug Company. He later dedicated another decade of service to the State of New Jersey, working in the Departments of Taxation and Pensions before retiring with his wife to their home in Yardley, PA. In addition to his family, Dick had two great loves in life-animals and sports. He and his family cared for and loved many dogs and cats throughout the years. Dick's kindness and love of animals extended far beyond his own pets. Many neighborhood dogs enjoyed their walks a little more because they knew to stop by his house, where he always had biscuits in his pocket for them to enjoy. A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Commanders fan, Dick remained loyal through both victories and heartbreaks. He, his wife Janet, and their son Ken shared a love of golf and spent many cherished years playing together as members of Yardley Country Club. Dick and Janet also had a wonderful group of friends with whom they enjoyed decades of fun and laughter. They were members of multiple Bridge groups, enjoyed monthly dinners at each other's houses to play games, and looked forward to their annual golf trip to Poland Spring, Maine. Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet (Crawford) Hartman, and his loyal son, Kenneth Hartman. He is survived by his loving daughter-in-law, Maureen Hartman. Family and friends are invited to Dick's graveside service with full military honors on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. The service will begin promptly at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Society ([email protected]) or the SPCA, P.O. Box 277 Lahaska, PA 18931 (https://buckscountyspca.org/donate/) in honor of Richard Hartman.
