Shirley Hein Obituary

Shirley J. Hein, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 89 in Easton, PA. Born on October 22, 1935, in Bethlehem, PA, to Verna (Haldeman) and Henry Cope, Shirley lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a strong work ethic, and a joyous spirit that brought light to all who knew her. Shirley spent her working years as a dedicated machine operator at a local sewing factory, where she not only honed her skills but also formed lasting friendships. Her commitment to her job was paralleled only by her commitment to her faith; she was a longstanding member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ, where she found great comfort and community. In her free time, Shirley was an avid seamstress and took great pleasure in sewing for her grandchildren. Her love for baking was evident in the delicious treats she would prepare for her family and friends, and her passion for travel led her to explore new places, with a particular fondness for cruises. These activities were not merely pastimes but were the threads that wove her family together in a tapestry of cherished memories. Shirley's life was blessed with a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William H. Hein, Jr., and her dear parents, Verna and Henry Cope. Her legacy continues through her children, Susan Kichline of Schnecksville, Sandra Becker and husband Michael of Bethlehem Township, and William D. Hein of Pen Argyl. She was a guiding force in the lives of her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and she was thrilled to have known her great-great-grandson. Shirley was the cherished sister of Frederick Cope and wife Cynthia of Freemansburg, James Cope of Steel City, Kenneth Cope of Bethlehem Twp, and Henry Cope of Maine. She was predeceased by siblings Richard Cope, Edith Cope Kern, Paul Cope, Doris Cope Bennicas, and Frank Cope, and by great grandson Nathan Becker, all of whom she held dear in her heart. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home- 500 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 A.M. until time of the service.
