Stephen Nye Obituary
Stephen G. Nye, 75, of Denver, Colorado, passed away suddenly on September 1, 2025. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 28, 1950 to the late Mary B. Nye and the late William E. Nye. He spent his childhood and youth in Whitemarsh/Flourtown, PA and graduated from Springfield High School. He earned his bachelor's degree at Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH, a Master's Degree from Denver University and was a doctoral candidate at NYU. He lived for over 50 years in Denver, CO Stephen's greatest passion was his love of God.
He was best known for his amazing and creative music. From childhood he excelled at piano and organ performance and in his adulthood he created over 200 hymns, songs, operas, musicals and other compositions. Stephen was an award winning educator, who taught for more than 40 years at elementary, middle school, high school and university levels. He was honored by the City and Mayor of Denver, the State of Colorado and was twice named teacher of the year. He directed and choreographed musical theater and took multiple choirs to Europe.
Stephen was engaged in many activities at the Churches where he worshiped. He served as a musician at John's Episcopal Cathedral, St. Thomas Episcopal Church and St. Philip and St. James Episcopal Church.
Stephen loved dogs. He had 8 cocker spaniels that he considered to be his children. He was also an avid gardener. His city home included 4 ponds beautiful trees and shrubs and an incredible ever-changing variety of beautiful flowers.
He is survived by his brothers John Nye of Hickory, NC and Paul Nye (Anna Marie), of Quakertown, PA, step siblings Ruth Rogers, Julia Arnold and Glenn Terry and an abundance of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved step sister [and dearest friend], Barbara Terry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Philip and St. James Episcopal Church, Denver, Colorado on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM. The service will be live streamed. Stephen's Interment will be in Flourtown, PA on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Hellertown.
