Terry German Obituary
Terry C. German, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at his home in Carolina Shores, NC. He was born in Allentown, PA on July 12, 1937, to the late Cliff and Dorothy (Koehler) German. In addition to his parents Terry was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Helman.
Terry was married to his loving wife, Colleen (Moran) German for 62 wonderful years. He was the most generous, kind and thoughtful husband. Never a day passed that Terry did not let Colleen know how much he loved her and how beautiful she was.
He attended Allentown High School, then went to West Chester University and earned his master's degree in education from Lehigh University in 1968. Following his education, Terry found his calling in coaching and helping his students to reach their maximum potential both on and off the court. He taught and coached for thirty-five years at Dieruff and Parkland High Schools. His 1979 Dieruff Basketball team was the last undefeated team in the East Penn League. His coaching passion and style were legendary.
Terry and Colleen owned Camp Olympic, a day and sports camp for youth of the Lehigh Valley from 1982-2005. Many nationally known players and coaches worked at his famed basketball camp. Camp Olympic brings the most incredible memories for his family friends, devoted staff and all in attendance over the 23 years.
Notably, he won the University of Notre Dame Award for Outstanding Leadership presented by Coach Digger Phelps. At West Chester University, he won 10 varsity letters in golf, basketball, soccer and track. He was selected for the West Chester Hall of Fame for basketball and was chosen to be on the All-Century Team. He was also in the Halls of Fame at Lehigh Valley Basketball and Dieruff High School and received Coach of the Year in 1979.
Terry ran golf tournaments for friends to raise money for scholarships and donations to various charities as a way of giving back to the community. He especially enjoyed playing golf and travelling on family trips to Disney World and the Islands. The highlight of his retirement was travelling with Colleen to Europe and many states in our beautiful America. Terry and Colleen spent a lot of time at their home in Calabash, NC with family and friends, and he especially loved visiting his children and grandchildren in various states.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen German; a son Matthew German and wife Emily of Calabash, NC; two daughters, Beth Mutzabaugh and husband Rick of Carolina Shores, NC; Kara Veenstra and husband Nick of Franklin Lakes, NJ; his seven grandchildren Tyler, Jake, Rachel, Sara, Jack, Ashlyn and Austin; he also leaves a sister, Marjorie Adams of Orlando, FL.
Very important in his life was his belief in God. He was a long-standing member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where he cherished his friendship with the late Monsignor Murphy.
We lost the most incredible husband, father, Poppa, teacher, coach, athlete, friend and mentor. Those who knew him knew he always had an abundance of jokes and was willing to share them at every gathering. He brought laughter into his presence. He touched the lives of so many and changed their path forever. We are so proud of him and he will be greatly missed.
