Vicki Evert Obituary
On June 17th, 1961, Vicki was born into the Leuschner Family. Her father, Herb, and her mother, Joan, had been blessed three years prior with their first daughter, Cheryl. Vicki, Herb, Joan, and Cheryl lived a blessed and modest life in Haddonfield, NJ. Summers were spent in Ocean City, where they enjoyed the constant presence of cousins, uncles, and aunts at the family bakery, or at sea, engaged in the beloved family activity of blue water fishing. The Leuschner family and extended family are hardworking, humble, tight-knit, and proud of the lives they built for themselves and generations to come.
Upon moving away from New Jersey for college at the University of Colorado Boulder, Vicki maintained the principles on which she was raised, dedicating herself to her studies of philosophy and cherishing the college education that her parents were not able to have themselves. She always followed the path God set before her-a path that ultimately led her to live in a treehouse in Alaska. Living in the Alaskan wilderness was one of her favorite memories to share and always stood as a testament to her strength, independence, and self-reliance.
After college, Vicki worked selflessly at a mental hospital where she cared for the ill and less fortunate. In the year of 1985, she met her future husband Ben who, not knowing she was a vegetarian at the time, took her on their first date to a meat-lovers restaurant specializing in alligator, snake, buffalo, and other rare meats Five years later, on October 7th, 1990, Ben and Vicki were married in Ocean City, New Jersey, and honeymooned on a scuba vacation in Belize. Ben and Vicki bought their first home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in the summer of 1990 and then proceeded to travel the world, seeing countries like Taiwan, Mexico, South Korea, and England.
In 1998, Vicki and Ben had their first child, Tori, and three years later, in 2001, they had their second child, Jake. Tori and Jake were homeschooled by Vicki in their elementary school years and remember that time with their mother as some of the best and most impactful years of their lives. Vicki made it her mission to care and provide for her children with all of her heart, loving them each day and instilling in them the same Christian values that shaped her life.
In Bethlehem, Vicki served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, assisted in child care through the church, actively participated in the district's Naval Academy parents club, and helped lead and organize numerous events for her children's sports teams. While her engagement in the community is noteworthy, her largest impact came from her constant support of friends and family with anything from delivering a home-cooked meal to flying across the country to dog-sit.
She loved her garden, her adopted stray cats, her backyard birds, her poolside chats with neighbors, swim team parties, sewing something instead of buying it, long walks with her favorite pack of dogs (Patty, Fritz, Drummer, and Koa), skiing in the mountains, ocean swims, and a good gin and tonic.
