William Hardie Obituary

William R. Hardie (Bill), 77, of North Wales, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital.

Born December 9, 1947, William was a son of the late Alexander and Geneva (Schaefer) Hardie and the loving husband of Elizabeth (Frost) Hardie. In addition to his wife, William is survived by his son, Scott Hardie (Ryan); his grandchildren, Madison, Hunter and Lochlan; his sister, Beverly Petridis (Peter); his brother, Robert Hardie (Cynthia); his niece Jean Petridis and his nephews, John Petridis (Michelle) and Brent Hardie (Allison). He was preceded in death by his niece, Paula Petridis, and his nephew, Rob Hardie.

Bill graduated from Drexel University as an Accounting Major in 1970 with high honors in ROTC. After graduation, he was given the option of choosing what area he wanted to pursue in the United States Army. He chose the Finance Corp and was immediately assigned to a position in Washington DC. A few months later, he received orders to go to Vietnam, where he honorably served as a 1st Lieutenant Finance Officer in Saigon. He was awarded several medals and a commendation for managing payroll funding and ensuring the troops were paid correctly. Upon returning from Vietnam, he worked for the large accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co (later Deloitte & Touche) and became a Certified Public Accountant. Throughout his career as a CPA, he was employed as a Chief Financial Officer by several companies. He particularly enjoyed helping companies attain Initial Public Offering.

Bill served his community as the Chairman of the Upper Gwynedd Township Authority, volunteering in that capacity from 1981 to 1995.

Bill was an avid golfer his entire life. He worked as a caddy at Llanerch Country Club in Havertown PA at the age of 14 and loved the game ever since. He enjoyed playing, watching, reading, talking about golf and volunteering to be a Marshall at local tournaments. One of the great joys of Bill's life was when he received a letter from Augusta Country Club notifying him he had won a lottery and would be permitted to purchase two Masters tickets at face value every year for the rest of his life.

Bill liked to travel (mostly to golf courses far and wide) and was a voracious reader who got lost in the pages of a good book every day. However, what brought him the most joy in his life was his family. He loved playing cards (and golf, of course) with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
