Albert Grimaldi Obituary

Albert H. Grimaldi, 93, of Windsor, beloved husband of Martha (LeVasseur), passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Albert was born October 5, 1931 in New Haven, CT, son of the late Alphonse Grimaldi and Anna (Iezzi) Grimaldi. He grew up in New Haven and entered the US Air Force after graduating high school. He spent four years in the Air Weather Service during the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, he attended the University of Connecticut, earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and his master's degree in computer science. He spent 31 years at Hamilton Standard, retiring in 1991 as a Senior Experimental Engineer. His most memorable work was spent working on the Apollo manned lunar program; specifically, the portable life support system, where he contributed to the success of astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin's journey to the moon and landings on the lunar surface. While working on the Apollo program, he received numerous awards, including the NASA Manned Flight Awareness Award and the Silver Snoopy Award. He was a member of the Beta Kappa Nu Honor Society; Tau Beta PI Honor Society; National Society of Professional Engineers; National, Connecticut, and Greater Hartford Association of Realtors; and a State of CT Notary Public. In his retirement, he worked as a residential Realtor with various local Real Estate agencies and as a salesman for Iron Age Safety Shoes. He was the Hamilton Standard Retirees Club President; volunteered at voting stations for the Town of Windsor and at Red Cross blood drives; and held an Amateur Radio license. He loved his UCONN sports; specifically, basketball. He always had a "can do" attitude and wanted people to succeed. His advice was, "Be true to yourself and treat other people kindly" and his motto was, "People are my most important product." Besides his wife Martha, he is survived by his three children, Michael Grimaldi of Windsor, Denise Ruszczyk and her husband, Henry of Titus, AL, Annette Grimaldi of Windsor; two grandchildren, Connor and Cody Ruszczyk; a sister Adele Haas of Hamden, CT. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Petrillo. His family will receive friends on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 9:30-11:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Al worked with the volunteers for the Windsor Health Department during vaccination clinics, I had the pleasure of working with him and talking with him quite a bit. He was always a pleasure to be with, I would look for him to work with. May he rest in peace and his family know that he made a difference in this world.
