Alfonse Puzone Obituary

Alfonse "Al" Anthony Puzone, 82, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a 23-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Al was born on August 27. 1943, to the late Joseph and Josephine Puzone in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a proud graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven in 1961. He then went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1965 from New Haven College, now known as the University of New Haven. He worked for many years at Stop & Shop from the time he was 16, where he met his future bride, until he was 23, when he finally began his engineering career in 1966 at Stanley Works in Wallingford. Al said his job at Stanley was the best one he ever had. He worked there for 16 years, starting as a time study engineer and rising to the position of manufacturing manager, in charge of more than 300 employees, until the company was eventually sold off to a competitor. Al went on to work for various other companies, including Traveler's and Robertshaw Controls, until he finally landed at Sikorsky Aircraft Company, working alongside his son for many years until he retired in 2008 at the age of 65. Al met the love of his life, Norma Elizabeth Cole, while working at Stop & Shop, who asked him if he wanted to take her to the union-hosted Christmas party at a "swanky" hotel in Hartford on December 19, 1960, for which he obliged and thus began their long and happy life together. They married on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 1965. The happy couple lived in New Haven with his parents until they purchased their first home in Clinton in 1967. He became a first-time dad to his bouncing baby boy, Joseph, in 1966, at the tender young age of 22. Two years later, the couple was blessed with a daughter, Cynthia. They'd bought their lovely home in North Haven in 1969, where they both lived until the end of their days. Al enjoyed motorcycle riding and playing golf with his older brother Vinny. He played poker every Monday night with his buddies and bowled every Tuesday night with his wife in their respective bowling leagues. He loved to play chess and shoot pool. He taught several of his grandchildren how to play both. Al is survived by his son Joseph Puzone (Rosa DeFilippo) and daughter Cynthia Pastore (Christopher), who reside in North Haven as well as his 9 grandchildren: Tyler Pastore, Alexander Puzone, Zachary Pastore (Raiza), Julia Puzone, Andrew Puzone, Noah Pastore, Evan Pastore, Zoe Pastore, and Sarah Puzone. He is predeceased by his wife Norma, who passed away on January 15, 2020, and his brother Vincent, who died on February 22, 2022. A time to remember and celebrate Al's life will be held on Wednesday morning, September 3rd, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven. A Catholic Parlor Service will be conducted in the funeral home at the end of the visiting hours at 11:00 AM We welcome all who knew him to join us.
