Allen Weathers Obituary

Allen L. Weathers, amateur historian of Meriden's industrial past and former curator of the Meriden Historical Society, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, CT. He was 94. Called a "Meriden treasure," Allen volunteered his encyclopedic knowledge of Meriden's industries and people to help families search genealogy, authors writing books on Meriden history, and the city's students touring the Andrews Homestead. He also presented a popular Q and A session called "Ask Allen" for the Historical Society. The Parker Gun Club granted him honorary membership in gratitude for his research assistance and yearly tours. Allen was born in Meriden on November 11, 1930, son of the late William and Gertrude (Lussier) Weathers. A graduate of Meriden High School, he served honorably in the United States Marines during the Korean War. A machinist at the Miller Company for over thirty years, he was partner with his wife, Neda P. Weathers, in the family business, Fair Weather Antiques. Allen and Neda were married on July 4, 1957. He is survived by Neda, the love of his life; three daughters, Laurie Cacace (Frank) of Madison, Shari Randall (Bill) of New London, CT, and Mary Sabino (John) of Cheshire; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Sherly. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Neil and William, his sister, June Crossley, and her son, Ron. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 10:30 to 11:30am at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St, Meriden, CT 06450. A funeral service will begin at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his honor to the Meriden Historical Society, P. O. Box 3005 Meriden, CT 06450 or online at meridenhistoricalsociety.org/donate.
