Anthony Ramirez Obituary
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Anthony Adam Ramirez Jr. On May 29th, 2025, Anthony, age 71, passed in the comfort of his daughter' home, surrounded by his beloved children after a very brief battle with glioblastoma.
Born on August 11, 1953, in New York City, Anthony embodied the grit, humor, and heart of a true New Yorker. Leaving home at just 15, he worked tirelessly to build a life through determination and perseverance. Over the years, he held many jobs including construction worker, garbage man, elevator operator, and delicatessen clerk. It was during his time as deli clerk that fate stepped in and he met the love of his life, Nancy D. Ramirez. With his charm and all "the extra fixins on her tuna 'sangwich'", their love story began. In May of 1980, they got married and started building their legacy. Their passion was to create a life they had always dreamt of for their 3 children, and together they worked endlessly to achieve that dream.
Anthony eventually found his calling as a nurse where he dedicated his life to a career of caring for others. His proudest nursing days were when he took care of our Veterans. He saved many of their lives, limbs, and helped some to recover from their PTSD. As a proud American, he took great joy in caring for our injured vets. Later in his career, he became known as "the doc" who always brought his quick wit, hearty laugh, and unmatched work ethic; he was the light in many lives. For him, work was never just an obligation, it was a reflection of his pride and love for helping others.
He also took great joy in being a devoted husband, father, brother, friend, and a die hard Yankees fan. He was the kind of man who always showed up, no matter how tired, busy, or burdened he might have been. From graduations and weddings to helping with moves or sharing laughter over a drink, Anthony was steadfast. His home was always a place of warmth and humor, where everyone felt welcomed. He was the parent that everyone was excited to see at the party, and of course, no gathering (or phone call) was complete without his trademark entrance phrase, "YO, YO! WHAT'S THE DILLY YO?" That's when you knew the fun, the laughter, and the good cheer was really about to start; and that feeling always brought a smile to everyone's face.
Anthony is survived by his three children, Anthony L. Ramirez, Elaine M. Ramirez-Marsh, Meghan N. Ramirez, and his 4 grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Elaine Pierce-Barth and Martha Martin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy D. Ramirez, who passed on February 17, 2021.
In accordance with his wishes, Anthony was cremated, and a private celebration of life was held with close family and friends.
The family finds comfort in the words from his memorial card:
"…Fill your hearts not with pain and sorrow,
But by finding joy in every tomorrow…
Remember me for my smile,
For all the laughs and joyous times,
We shared for a long while…"
Anthony's life was one of strength, humor, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the laughter, resilience, and compassion he instilled in his children, and he will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
